The word Sinulog comes from the Cebuano adverb "sulog" which means "like water current movement;" it describes the forward-backward movement of the Sinulog dance done to the beat of the drums, inspired by the movements of Raja Humabon's adviser Baladhay who believed to have been healed by the Child, from his sickness.

If you are planning to visit Cebu, you can schedule it in a January where you can celebrate with us the biggest feast of Cebu: Feast of Sto. Niño.
The celebration begins at the Basilica del Sto. Niño. Many devoties bring their own Sto. Niño to have it blessed during the mass. Candles are also lit at the candles area together with your personal prayers and messages to the heavens.
Another activity to look out for is the Fluvial Parade which happens at the break of dawn, the day before the final most-awaited and anticipated Sinulog parade.
The first mactan bridge, where we the people can get an aerial view of the fluvial parade. We came here as early as 5:00 a.m. so we can choose an ideal spot for viewing.
These are aerial views of the participants. They dance to the Sinulog beat as they wave an image of Sto. Niño towards the bow part of the boat. Try not to go overboard otherwise you will be swimming hard against the strong currents of Mactan.

One thing you should not also miss during Sinulog while you visit the basilica, is not only to pray, but also to have your Sto. Niño image (if you own one) get dressed up. By the streets beside the Basilica are artisans who can create, carve, and dress up your imahe to get them ready for their big day. You can also purchase here from several selections and different variations of Sto. Niño images.
